Public record: Criminal conviction on record

What the public record shows

Eddy Alexandre founded and ran EminiFX, a forex and cryptocurrency trading platform. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 9 years in prison, ordered to forfeit $248,829,276.73 and pay $213,639,133.53 in restitution, for defrauding more than 25,000 investors. This is a criminal conviction — not an allegation.

The scheme

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, Alexandre:

  • Promised investors weekly returns of at least 5% — an annualized rate that would compound to an absurd multiple within a year.
  • Falsely claimed EminiFX used artificial-intelligence trading technology to generate those returns. The AI system did not exist.
  • Ran the platform as a Ponzi scheme, using new investor deposits to fund the illusion of returns for existing customers.

Why “AI trading” claims deserve extra scrutiny

“Our AI generates guaranteed returns” has become one of the most common fraud pitches of the past several years, precisely because AI is genuinely transforming other industries — making the claim sound plausible to people who can’t independently verify it. A 5% weekly return, compounded, would make an AI trading system worth more than all the money on Earth within a few years. The math itself is the tell.

Why we rate this 1 / 10 — Avoid

A guilty plea and a $248 million forfeiture for one of the largest fake-AI investment frauds prosecuted to date, victimizing over 25,000 people.

Red flags this case teaches

  • Any specific weekly or monthly percentage return, “guaranteed” by an algorithm, should be run through basic compounding math before you believe it.
  • “AI trading” is a claim, not proof. Ask for independent, audited verification that the system exists and produces the results claimed — not a dashboard the company controls.
  • Scale of victims (25,000+) shows aggressive, broad marketing — a red flag in itself for any “exclusive” investment opportunity.

Bottom line

Convicted and sentenced to 9 years. Run the math on any “guaranteed weekly return” claim before you invest — the arithmetic alone exposes almost every fraud like this one.
